Wakefield forward Tinirau Arona has been charged for a tackle that is set to leave St Helens winger Adam Swift out for a prolonged period of time.
Arona has been charged with Grade B dangerous contact for a tackle on Swift in the 6th minute of Wakefield’s 44-4 defeat at Langtree Park on Friday.
The tackle forced Swift from the field, with suggestions coming out later that he might have broken his ankle.
While that has yet to be confirmed, St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has all but revealed Swift is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after confirming today that the injury isn’t short-term and that Swift is set to see a surgeon.
Normally the charge against Arona would earn him a 1-2 game ban. However given the potential severity of the injury, it remains unsure whether the RFL will increase his suspension as they did against John Boudebza, who had his suspension increased to four games for a tackle on Michael Shenton that is expected to rule out the Castleford centre for the rest of the season.
