Cunningham heaps praise on Fages

Keiron Cunningham heaped praise on half-back Theo Fages as his inspirational display helped St Helens to an impressive victory over league leaders Warrington.

Fages put in a stunning display to really make his mark at his new club for the first time, creating numerous tries for Saints, who became the first team to defeat Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this year.

His performance went a long way to vindicating Cunningham’s pre-season comments that Fages could be the club’s half-back for over the next decade, with the Saints chief praising his new star once again.

“Theo’s just coming of age.

“Without singing his praises too much, when we initially signed Theo or got the opportunity to sign him it was on the pretence that I told the chairman that he would be your number 7 for the next 14-15 years if you could afford to keep him.

“I think that’s the same performance we’ve put together for the last three games, which includes Widnes and Hull last week.

“I thought we were really unlucky in the Hull game.

“If you persist with that and you keep doing the right things then you do make your own luck in rugby league and I thought that’s what we did today.”
