Rangi Chase handed number 23 at Leigh for 2016

Leigh Centurions have released their squad numbers for what is likely to be a big 2016 campaign – and there are certainly a few surprises on there.

Most of their big name signings have landed starting jerseys – although in the biggest shock of the lot, Rangi Chase will be wearing 23 in 2016.

Many expected him to slot in and take the number six shirt from Martyn Ridyard, but Chase will take 23 after coach Paul Rowley opted to stick with Ridyard and Brierley in their traditional numbers they wore to great effect last year.

Elsewhere, Willie Tonga takes on number four after joining from Catalans Dragons, Harrison Hansen is 11 and Cory Paterson gets the starting 13 shirt.

There is another shock at the bottom end as Sam Barlow, the forward who had such a big impact for Leigh next year, wears number 33.

Leigh Centurions 2016 squad numbers: 1 Gregg McNally, 2 Adam Higson, 3 Greg Worthington, 4 Willie Tonga, 5 Liam Kay, 6 Martyn Ridyard, 7 Ryan Brierley, 8 Fuifui Moimoi, 9 Bob Beswick, 10 Dayne Weston, 11 Harrison Hansen, 12 Gareth Hock, 13 Cory Paterson, 14 Micky Higham, 15 Jonny Pownall, 16 Reni Maitua, 17 Jamie Acton, 18 Tom Spencer, 19 Lewis Foster, 20 Sam Hopkins, 21 Andrew Dixon, 22 Mathias Pala, 23 Rangi Chase, 24 Tom Armstrong, 25 Eze Harper, 29 Jake Emmitt, 33 Sam Barlow.
