Catalan Dragons star Leon Pryce admits his side have to improve quickly if they are to finish the season with a flourish, despite them moving into the top eight with a victory over London Broncos.
Pryce used the word “scrappy” to sum up his side’s performance on several occasions, and believes that if they don’t clean up their act in the coming weeks, they will continue to get beaten – citing their form in England as a major problem.
“It was really scrappy, but we got the two points. We’ve been scrappy for the last month or so and we just haven’t played any good rugby at all. We’ve got to start working on a few areas and clean a few things up, because if we play like that we won’t win many games,” he told League Express.
“We didn’t take London for granted. We knew they were a better team than they’ve shown this season – we just didn’t play well. It’s a continuing trend with us that we just don’t play well when we’re in England, and if we don’t fix it up we’ll continue to get beat.
“We play our exciting style of rugby and you live by the sword, die by the sword. When that brand of rugby comes off everyone is applauding us and saying it’s brilliant, but when it doesn’t we look quite stupid. It’s one of those things that on a good day it’s great – but the last few games it hasn’t looked good at all.
“It’s always good to be pinching wins when you’re not playing well; and that’s what we’ve done today. Obviously we didn’t get the win last week but it was important to get the result today.”
