Tony Smith praised his team as they hit back from consecutive defeats in style by thrashing Widnes 48-16.
An eight-try rout heaped misery on an out of sorts Widnes outfit, with Denis Betts’ side getting dragged into the pack around the bottom four.
Joe Westerman, Kevin Penny and Stefan Ratchford scored two tries apiece and Smith said: “We had no energy last week but we did tonight. We started well, controlled the game and were full of energy.
“The players wanted to respond and they did it emphatically.
“Widnes defended strongly in patches and I don’t think their effort reflected the scoreline.”
Westerman produced arguably his best performance for the club since joining from Hull FC and Smith said:
Smith was impressed with ex-Hull FC forward Westerman, saying: “Joe really stepped up.
“He’s not been at his best in recent weeks and still feeling his way but has done his homework.
“Ryan Atkins was also back to his best and the halves were outstanding. Great stuff too from Ben Currie.”
