A try three minutes from time by captain James Mason helped the SOUTH WEST edge the SOUTH EAST 34-32 at Maidenhead in one of Saturday’s three STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE fixtures.
Mason’s touchdown crowned a rally from 32-14 down on the hour, with Tom Plance and Brad Kislingbury bagging a brace apiece and Luke Stephens and Jamie Park also crossing; Danny Fallon landed three goals.
Fraser Marjoribanks crossed twice for the South East, with other touchdowns going to Malikhi Lloyd-Jones, Callum Whitcombe, James Smith and Jamie Mackay. Sam Druce (3) and Kain Monks landed goals.
Elsewhere, the MIDLANDS returned victorious 32-0 from the NORTH WEST, while NORTH EAST lost 10-4 at home to YORKSHIRE.
The games were arranged as trials for February’s North v South Origin match, for which the two squads will be announced on Friday (18 December).
The England Universities party for next spring’s Associations Cup, and for the Four Nations tournaments in Edinburgh in June, will be selected from those who most impress in the Origin clash.
